Poetry is sometimes used on courses in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and on retreats, in order to inspire and deepen one’s practice.
The UC San Diego Health System has compiled a site with poetry, click here.

Johan Bergstad, the founder of Mindfulness Academy Scandinavia, writes haiku in Swedish and English. His poetry has appeared in numerous magazines and anthologies, like Acorn, Frogpond, The Heron’s Nest and White Lotus:

autumn wind –
swinging in the hammock
an apple

 *

I stop
at the crosswalk
for the full moon

*

a ship leaves …
some of the sea
is rain

*

full moon night …
all that is
and isn’t

*

memorial grove
snowflakes disappear
into snow

In 2008 a photo collage by Johan Bergstad won an illustration contest and appeared on the front cover of The Heron’s Nest:

The Swedish artist Ania Witwitzka has interpreted Johan’s haiku (click on the paintings to enlarge them):

spring sun ania

(painting by Ania Witwitzka to Johan Bergstad’s haiku:)

spring sun
my boy tells everyone
the same secret

snowfall ania

(painting by Ania Witwitzka to Johan Bergstad’s haiku:)

snowfall
one thought here
one there
